The TV has 3 HDMI inputs so as long as your devices have an HDMI output just plug them in and you can select them. I use it with Dish satellite a Blu-ray player and a PC. Dish recognized the TV during its setup and configured the Dish remote to use the TV's sound, mute, and other TV functions. If that doesn't work TCL's website gives you codes for many devices. The TV defaults to booting up to a screen that allows you to select various different inputs but if you wanted to boot straight to your satellite or cable for example, just go to settings, power and select the desired power on device. You can always get back to the selection screen by pressing the little house at button on the TCL remote.

As for the remote, I would guess it depends on your cable box, since lots of electronics these days can be set to power on/off other devices and many cable remotes can be set to control televisions. You would need to look at your cable box remote’s specs, I think.
