By Far the Best TV Under $350!
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I own multiple smart TV's and spend more free time than I should reading reviews of TVs and this has the best display for any TV under $350. (Pricing for 43 and 50 inch). If you only have about $300-$350 and you are okay with 43 or 50 inch size, then look no further!! What makes the display so good is that it not only supports HDR, but also supports Dolby Vision. This is the cheapest TV with Dolby Vision you can find currently to my knowledge. In summary having both HDR and Dolby Vision means this 5 series is much a brighter display and more colorful than the cheaper 4 series version of this TV. It's definitely worth paying the little bit extra to get a much better display. It gets even better, because it has Roku. That is the name of the operating system which has all the apps and features built into the TV. Roku is personally my 2nd favorite operating system for a TV. (Android TV on Sony TVs is my top favorite TV operating system because it has the most apps and features.) Roku is my 2nd favorite because it has the 2nd most apps available to download of any other TV operating system. Roku has over 3,000 apps/channels you can download!! So of course that includes being able to download download Netflix, or Hulu, or Disney Plus, or Amazon Prime, or Sling TV, or Youtube, or Youtube TV, Google Play Movie Store, and thousands more!!! Samsung and LG have very few apps that you can download. Roku is also a really great operating system because it is the easiest TV operating system to navigate. So if you are not tech savvy or buying it for someone who is not tech savvy, then Roku is the PERFECT operating system for them! The only reason I give 4 stars instead of 5 is because it seems to have a bit of delay when clicking to open apps and when moving the cursor around to select apps. It gets 5 stars for value and display quality for this price. But overall I would give 4.5 stars but Best Buy doesn't allow that. I just wish Roku would make it just a little bit faster and the buttons on their remotes more clicky. Overall it is still the number one TV that I would recommend to anyone looking to spend under $350.

Great TV, Great Price
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We bought this TV for our bedroom. The picture is awesome and the sound is certainly good enough for a bedroom. I'll admit that the remote is very basic (no number keys), but if you're already a Roku user then this is not a huge adjustment. We watch mostly over-the-air programming on this unit, but the TV switches channels very quickly in response to the remote, unlike some of our older TVs. One minor annoyance was that after a number of days the TV started to show only the channels it decided were our "favorites" based on what we most often watched. But there's a Favorite Channels setting you can turn off in the Roku menu options for the antenna input. Note that there are settings for the Roku app that are separate from the settings for the various input sources (like antenna TV).

Quality picture and sound on a budget.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I actually went to best buy for a bigger and more expensive TV. However I stood there for a while and neither of the associates in that department even bothered to ask if i needed any assistance? I looked around and couldn't find the one i saw online so i figured it was probably sold. I started looking at the open box items and found this one. It was smaller than I planned on getting but, the price was right. I am a Samsung guy and the last TV i bought was a Samsung DLP when they first came out. I was pleasantly surprised when i came home and set it up. The picture is great, the TV sound is decent and i am pleased with the performance for the price. I then went back and bought the TCL sound bar and BT sub which are sick. The sound is deep, crisp, and puts out some great bass. I definitely recommend TCL to those who want quality sound & picture without the price. The TV and sound bar work perfectly together.

Great TV for a Great Price
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got this TV almost 2 months ago and put it in my work at home office. TCL used to be a brand I associated with cheapness and low build quality. In the past few years TCL has really stepped up their game. I had the opportunity to go to CES this year and really see the future of TCL and the high quality products that they have started to produce. I have always bought Samsung TVs for the past 10 years. After CES this year, I decided that I wanted to give TCL their shot. And they delivered. The build quality of this incredibly affordable TV is superb. This is of course not a top range TV with QLED or OLED display, but the IPS panel that it has is great. The viewing angles are probably the biggest weakness, directly on is pretty much the only acceptable way to watch. This TV looks really good despite the price tag, the bezels are very thin and pleasing to the eye. The Roku is also a huge plus, i have never used a Roku product but i really like the quick and clean interface. All in all this TV is the best you can do at this price point and I highly recommend it.

Great value in a 43 inch TV.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the 2018 version of this same TV two years ago and it proved to be a good purchase. I needed another similar size TV for a static display, so I bought the current (2020) model. It is even slightly better in terms of picture quality. This TV is connected to a GeoChron map device which displays live maps with various overlays. I initially connected the GeoChron to a standard High Def Samsung TV. There is no comparison between the picture quality on this 4K TV and a standard high def TV. The text on the map was very hard to read on a high def set. It's quite clear on this 4K device. Even standard high def content streamed over the internet looks pretty good with the upscaling. Native 4K content is super. The TCL Roku interface is very user friendly and offers access to a lot of content. Very pleased with this TV. I did find limited inventory of some of the TV's in this size, but Best Buy had this ready for store pickup in about five days. The no contact parking lot pickup (which is hopefully over) was a great service by Best Buy to make products available while the stores were closed.

Impressive Value TV
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far so good. After one week of use, I'm pretty happy. I purchased this item as a secondary TV for use in a bedroom, and I wanted to see what a Roku interface had to offer. I hooked up an Insignia amplified antenna which obtained an impressive 55 channels and works well with the menuing system. Because there are so many channels when we include the streaming channels it's a bit of an annoyance that there's no numbers available on the remote to jump directly to a channel. However, the picture quality is excellent, interface is great, sound is good, it's easy to hook up and tune the antenna and all the various Roku friendly apps make this a great value TV. Also easy enough to mount. Multiple HDMI ports make this very flexible to add a cable box and/or streaming sticks if the need ever arose.

Ok but a little different from 3 series
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.ORIGINALLY I HAD 4 STARS. I CHANGED TO F BECAUSE THIS MAY BE DUE TO DIFFERENT CHANNELS. I WAS LOOKING AT HOUSEWIVES AND NO MATTER WHAT PICTURE SIZE, I COULDN'T GET THE WHOLE TITLE. I WAS COMPARING THAT PREVIOUSLY. I JUST HAPPENED TO LOOK AT WEATHER CHANNE. BUT I JUST CHECKED OTHER CHANNELS AND ITS FINE. I think this is a great TV. I really liked the 3 series and insignia but backlighting didnt last. I had a Google and another type of tcl and it went right back. But the original tcl roku without Google is awesome so I give 5 stars . I do noticed a little delay in changing channels but not like the ones I returned This is what I was originally speaking on with 4 stars but changed to 5 stars. I like tcl roku TV. The only problem I have is that when you are sizing picture, the words doesn't all show on the screen. For ex. The weather channel, only way i can see the icon is If picture size is on direct. If I want the whole screen filled, auto, zoom, normal and stretch, you still cant see the channel icon. Original 3 series and insignia tcl roku weren't like that. Since 5g, these TVs do come grayish like contrasting, not looking clear when I normally got my TVs. But I did some adjusting and football is pretty clear.

Excellent TV, best one in this price range.
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an excellent TV. I'm using this TV for development of a video game I'm working on. I have two 22" monitors side by side and this TV behind it and elevated, mirroring display #2. Aside from development and using it with my PC, I also use the Roku apps to watch TV and movies in my downtime. The Roku system software is precisely what I'm always wanted out of a smart tv experience: smart, but not too smart, and absolutely no ads (at least that I've come across). I get the feeling that Roku gets its money from having streaming solutions available as channels on their app store like list, and not like LG which is feeding you the end user and consumer with garbage content. So this TV's experience is a win/win for consumers. The viewing angles are great for what I use it for but I've noticed it looks great from side angles as well. The ability to set a default channel or input is crazy awesome and very useful. I set it to input 1 so I can turn on the TV and not have to mingle with any menus to get set up. I've very impressed with this TV. At this price I was truthfully bracing for some sort of lack of quality somewhere, but this TV is easily better than any top billed 43" TV available 2 years ago. In my workflow, I absolutely need to turn on PC mode which disables some postprocessing effects that make images sharper and nicer. TCL's TV is able to set this feature very easily. TCL has made an excellent product and I'm supremely happy with it. Thanks!

Q: QuestionThis item is Model# 43S525. Please elaborate on the differences between this one & these other two similar TCL TVs: Model #43S425; & Model #43S517. Also, which of these 3 models, if any, was first manufactured in 2019? Thank you for your kind reply.
Asked by Perplexed.
- A:Answer Hello Perplexed, All three models you listed are currently being sold in 2019 however the 43S525 is new for 2019 followed by the 43S425. The 43S517 started into production last year but was still manufactured in 2019. The number after the letter "S" is the series so we are really looking at the differences between the 4 and 5 series. All the TVs you listed are 4K Ultra High Definition so they all have great screens but in most areas the new 5 series, 43S525 offers a few advantages. It offers Dolby Vision, HDR10, HLG, Natural Motion 240, and an additional HDMI port. If you need further details please visit us at https://tclusa.com/products/home-theater/5-series and scroll down to the bottom to see a comparison chart and the details of each. -TCL Customer Support

Q: QuestionHow do I get network channels on this - like CBS, ABC, NBC, Hallmark, etc.
Asked by Barb.
- A:Answer There's 3 ways to get network channels etc.. 1. Subscribe to a cable company service. 2. Hook up an external over the air antenna. 3. Subscribe to one of the built in apps. I personally chose option 3 and subscribed to Youtube TV. It gives me all the local network channels plus about another 50 popular channels or so that you would typically find using cable, all for about $50 a month. It doesn't include the Hallmark channel but I believe there's a Hallmark app on the tv that you can use to subscribe to them if you want, otherwise you'd have to figure out which of the available services out there include that channel in their lineup.

Q: QuestionI just received this tv today. I’m very disappointed with the picture quality. The setting it at its darkest but it is still too bright. Also the contrast isn’t good & picture not sharp. Can I change any of this?
Asked by Disappointed.
- A:Answer There are options available to adjust the picture settings to better fit your personal preference. You can access the Options menu on the TV by pressing the asterisk (*) button on your remote while watching content. Additionally, you can access expert picture settings by downloading the free Roku mobile app on a smartphone or tablet. The Roku mobile app works as a remote and allows you to access additional features like voice search, private listening, expert picture settings, and more. Hope this helps & happy viewing!
