“i understand the headphone jack is in the back of this tv. Can I leave the cord, if it’s long enough, in the jack all the time since the tv will be on the wall & hard to get at every day?”

You can leave headphones connected to the TV at all times. However, if the cord is inserted into the headphone jack it will automatically mute the TV speakers. You would need to unplug your headphones to regain access to the internal TV speakers. Hope this helps! Thank you, TCL Customer Support
