The S405 is a 2017 model and the S425 is our newest version of this 4-Series TCL Roku TV. The new versions of 4-Series TVs offer the same great performance and features as 2017 versions. Please try again later.The S405 is a 2018 model The S425 is a 2019 model Refer to www.rtings.com for all the intricate differences but overall, according to them, "The TCL S Series S405 4k and the TCL 4 Series S425 have very similar performance. The TCL S425 has marginally higher contrast ratio, which is great for watching movies in a dark room, and a slightly lower input lag, which is good for playing video games. The S405, on the other hand, can remove 24p judder from the native apps." I searched the same thing and ultimately decided on the S425 from BestBuy because its a newer model, and while BestBuy and Walmart could deliver it free for the same price, BestBuy's customer service outshines anything else out there. The differences are negligible and you most likely would have trouble noticing them even side by side.
