Yes. I did it. The feet can be installed pointing in or out without any modifications. You could support it on a 37 inch surface with only about 1/4 inch to spare. So, you should be fine with 40 inches. I'm on a surface that is 43 inches long with plenty to spare.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, and it's prefectly stable. The feet appear to be indexed on one side (only allowing one direction of mounting) , but they reversed just fine. The TV looks a little funny with the feet pointing inward, but it's just as stable as if they point outward. Different kind of stress on internal frame, though, so time will tell.
