“The box for mine also says "Retail Sample" I've followed the instructions and still can't get it to connect to wifi. If I can't get it resolved, it's going back. Any updates on this issue?”

You’ll need to manually connect to the device to get it to connect to your wifi. It’ll then update aswell. Instructions in the link below: https://support.tcl.com/us-soundbars-setup-configuration/tcl-alto-9+-manual-wi-fi-set-up

However, the only difference between this unit and non-sample, is the Wi-Fi feature needs to be manually setup on this one. We can walk-though the steps which will take about 10-15 minutes.
