“Is it a front to back protection or is it just back and have to depend on screen protectors”

It is just for the case you have to buy the screen protection.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.It is raised on each end of the device (top & bottom) but I'd still suggest a screen protector for added protection. If it falls onto an object the impacts the screen directly, it could damage it.
