Unfortunately, this will not replace a CPU fan. It is really more for air movement within your case. I don't believe the RPM is high enough to displace enough air to cool you most CPU's. Plus, you would have to make a custom mount even to get it to work like that. Better off just buying a proper CPU fan. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.NO! Size is too large, first off. Secondly, air movement would be totally insufficient to allow CPU to run at even 50% capability. Best way to go is to purchase a "heat sink / fan combo", which allows the transfer of CPU heat to the copper (preferred) or aluminum heat sink where the CPU cooling fan is attatched to. Be advised that you will also need HEAT SINK COMPOUND applied to the heat sink area that comes into contact with the CPU. Not much of this compound ir required (approx. the size of TWO GRAINS OF RICE)... my audio/video post-production studio's computeras are all hand-assembled, and I RECOMMEND the use of ARTIC SILVER as the heat sink material ONLY as the chemical which allows the MOST EFFICIENT transfer of heat betqween CPU and heat sink. Artic Silver literally gets into the microscopic pits which are present on ANY heat sink! Before applying the Artic Silver to the heat sink, wipe the CPU's surface as well as the heat sink surface with an alcohol wipe to remove any dirtor chemical impurities PRIOR to applying the heat sink compound. A single sheet of toilet paper's all that's need to wipe these surfaces, making sure you apply the alcohol to the TP prior to wiping the surfaces. Isopropyl alcohol (get it any any drug store) is recommended, and is less than $2 for a big bottle! A few drops on the TP is all that's needed. It will evaporate on it's own within 60-90 seconds. Then apply the Artic Silver in two thin strips, and before securing the heat asink in place, move the heat sink around in small circles to allow the compound to get 95% coverage of the metal part of the CPU's surface (NOT THE PIN SIDE!). Then affix the heat sink / fan combo per mfg's instuctions.. Unlike other heat sink compounds, Artic Silver will NOT dry out even after 5+ years of continuous CPU usage! ALL OF THE SEVEN EDITING AND POST-PRODUCTION PC'S AT MY STUDIO HAVE THE ARTIC SILVER AS THE HEAT SINK COMPOUND AND I HAVE NEVER HAD TO REAPPLY ANY EVEN ON THE OLDEST PC HERE! But please use a high quality heat sink / fan combo designed for the CPU you'll be using. Thermaltake makes a number of NON-LIQUID HS/FAN systems, and are quite inexpensive! Even if you spend $50-60 on a TT cooler, using that and the Atrtic Silver will pretty much guarantee you many years of the BEST and HIGHEST EFFICIENCE cooling available unless you go with a liquid-based "radiator" cooling system. Those also need the heat sink compound (Artic Silvwer recommended), but that type of syetm is difficult to work with, and when it leaks, which it will eventually do, you can easily destroy the motherboard and peripherial devices!
