The tracking is based on Bluetooth technology. Tile claims the effectivene range to be 100 feet. I’m certain conditions affect range, but mine always work within 75’. One problem is being able to hear your Tile ring. If it’s in your handbag in a quiet environment you probably can hear it at least 50’ away. At a loud party, however all bets are off. Your Tile will certainly ring, but will your ears detect the sound in a loud room? That’s another story.

When you loose connection with the tile it will mark it's last known spot like at an address level. If another tile user gets near it and you have marked your tile lost you will get notified. Distance to you is irrelevant. You could loose it on the other side of the world, so long as another tile user comes close to it you'll get notified.
