“How does the Tile let you know that the battery is low/dead? Also, does the battery life "start" when it is activated or are they using battery life while still in the box?”

The tiles do not operate until activated, (there is a plastic strip that is pulled out to establish connection between the battery and device. That said batteries being stored over time will be less effective. I bought a four pack 3 years ago and just started using the last one in April, and it's going fine. My tiles run anywhere from a year to 15-17 months. It's really dependent on how often you use the find the device function or find my phone if you double click on the tile. When the app sees the device is over 1 year activated and it is at less than optimum power (although it may still be functional) it starts to give a message every couple weeks, then every week, then every day. You can push it off for 2 weeks. Eventually it gives a message that "your tile may be unable to generate a sufficient signal within the next 10 days." That was my alrighty then. and changed it out. (15 months of use)
