The coax input on this TV is really meant for tuning digital antenna signals, not the coax output of a cable box on channel 3 or 4... but the FCC requires (or did) devices with a digital tuner to have an analog tuner to support things like this. Coax output from a cable box is really, REALLY low quality by today's standards. The TV is *only* 1080p, and the Coax output is *only* 480i... with the TV upscaling the relatively poor signal to fit on the pixels of the LCD screen, which is really hard and this TV isn't good at it. So it "works" but really badly. If your folks' cable company is using digital signals (which most are), the best thing to do is get a digital set top box with HDMI out, which may require upgrading to HD (which will give them much better video quality).
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The coax cable you are using generally is only able to transmit a lower resolution signal. You may want to consider upgrading your cable box to one with with a HDMI connection as you will not be able to exceptionally great picture or sound.
