“When i change the channel via my direct tv box the display pops up from direct tv and a white bar from the tv appears also.i wouldlike to get rid of the white display from the tv.any ideas”

Without more information about the "White Bar", it sounds like your DirecTV remote is sending an IR signal that is triggering a display box of some kind on your TV. Either way, the solution lies within the DirecTV remote. Make sure the device selection switch is in DirecTV mode when changing channels. Try changing batteries - sometimes when they're low, a remote sends a mutated IR frequency. Reprogram the TV code - even though it may already work the TV power and volume, there may be a more appropriate code further down the list that is more suited for this model TV. If these solutions don't work, you may have to look into another universal remote (Logitech Harmony) or switch to an RF remote depending on the model of your DirecTV receiver. Hope this helps.
