Just bought this tv today and had the same question. It’s a pretty simple fix. Hit the home button—>settings—>displays & sounds—> power on—> choose “last input” So if all they ever watch on the tv is cable, it will always default to cable when the tv is turned on.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I called Amazon on this one as the Fire TV software belongs to them. When the TV comes on it always goes to the home screen. In the menu you can go to Display and Sounds, Power on and select Recent. All that does is put what you recently used last at the top of the home screen and makes it a little easier to select. I have programmed a cable remote to work the TV and I have to switch back to the TV remote to select HDMI 1 when the TV comes on and then back to the Cable remote. My Smart TV is not that smart. I don't like it either and it causes confusion in our house also. Amazon has forwarded my complaint and they said they will try to get it into the next software update, We'll see.
