“When i pause netflix or hulu or anything of the sort and leave it paused for a time span as short as a bathroom break, the tv shuts off. any way i can get that to stop? it’s a hassle to have to load everything back up after it shuts off.”

I contacted amazon regarding this issue. Unfortunately this tv does not have an option to turn off the sleep mode. Amazons suggestion was to set the sleep timer to the longest amount of time (240 minutes) to prevent it from going to sleep earlier. I’m not sure this would help though because it happens when the tv is paused.
