“How can you set it to go to the cable connection instead of the home screen when you turn the tv on? We don’t want to use two remotes all the time. Also, I cannot add it to my Alexa app, it doesn’t see it during the search for devices”

Try the Power On feature, go Home > Settings > Display & Sounds > Power On and select Last Input. To link an Echo device using the smartphone Alexa app go Home > Menu > Settings > Video and TV > Fire TV and follow the on-screen instructions. David M. - Toshiba Support
