• You don't have to have a Satellite/Cable box to transfer videos. The disc preparation and recording menus are shown on the TV, so you should have it attached to your TV.

• it's alot easier if you do have a TV hook up. Can't really see the menus without it. You could try and use the manual and hope you are pressing the right button in the sequence they say, but this would not be an easy task. you do not need a satellite/cable box or converter box. can connect directly to a tv.
