“Can I use with my Netgear powerline 500? or do I have to have all the same brand? I've already got an older (5yrs) Netgear and it works, but I want to expand and use in another room. TIA!”

As long as both support the HomePlug AV2 standard, it is theoretically possible. That being said, we generally recommend sticking with TP-Link models for the convenience of managing all of your Powerline devices via the tpPLC app.
