It will record in 30 second continuous intervals. Yes it will send a notification to the app on your phone which will appear on the locked/home screen if notifications for that app are enabled. It is very good camera. I tried 3 before buying this one.

Please try again later.It will send notifications to your phone anytime motion is detected., The recordings I have get varies from 10 seconds to approximately 1 minute 30 seconds. I do not know how it determines how long to record. You can delay notifications up to 24 hours.
