• It does require WIFI to work. The distance depends on your network.

• I don't know the distance but the wifi is upstairs in the master bedroom and the furthest camera is downstairs in the kitchen. I have 3 cameras connected. It definitely needs a wifi signal to work or the camera will be offline.
