Not Really Happy About This Purchase
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed.I had high hopes for this camera, although I only wanted to monitor my cats’ activities when I wasn’t with them. It is quite noisy when it pans the room, and it stays stuck in the location of the last detected motion. It then will only detect motion coming from that last location. So, say it follows the motions of one of the cats, if the other is in a different location, it will never detect and follow her motion.

I love this camera!
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed.I love this camera and my hubby is excessive, so he went right out and bought 4 more. I will tell you that is a mistake. One is fabulous, 5 of them draw too much bandwidth and they all suffer from it. We used our first one for security. We didn't like the limited view and poor quality of the "Ring" doorbell. Kasa picks up the movement immediately and alerts you on your phone. You can watch a person coming to your front door, and actually turn the camera, if needed, from your phone. The quality is so good that you can take pictures from your phone (for still shots) and blow them up without losing clarity. They also pick up voices and you can talk to the person you are looking at. There is a bit of a learning curve to its set up. I figured it out, plus the Geek Squad will help you if you can't.

Great Security Cam, Semi-Buggy
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.Overall this is a great way to get into affordable home-security! The reason I purchased this was to monitor my apartment while I am away from it due to Covid. Also decided to go with this brand after some reviews and because it was the most affordable/available for curbside pickup at my local Best Buy. Setup as noted by many is easy if you can manage apps on your phone, however let me warn you something. Don’t set it up on a particular WiFi/Router for testing purposes if you plan on then moving it to another location/WiFi. That was my first mistake, the reason is because the Kasa app is good yet semi-buggy so to re-setup the camera on a new network you have to ‘remove’ it then ‘add’ it again in the app. The problem is that during the setup process, it asks you at a certain point to connect to the Cameras’s own WiFi signal to be able to link it - I have an iPhone and when I go to the WiFi Settings, the Kasa Cam WiFi signal showed up the first time, but after that it literally took me 25 attempts to get it to show up again and then another after that. Very frustrating and time-consuming to simply get it linked again. Other than that there was only one other minor app-related issued I noticed. It has you setup 4 ‘Activity Zones’ so you can easily click on and the Camera will move to where you set up the zone. It’s a great feature actually, but in the app the images of these zones will freeze sometimes and it’s not the worst thing ever but it’s strange and you certainly notice it. They did just do an app update recently so maybe that was resolved. Oh! Last, If you want/have notifications on for movement, be prepared to get a lot when you’re home because there’s no feature to say “I’m Home” to make it not send you notifications on your phone when you are home. In the end; Overall good purchase. The camera quality is great on the app. Moving it and setting zones is easy and convenient. Sound quality is good enough to hear what’s going on in the room. Comes with long power cable, can mount it as well. Also, the way they setup up the Free plan for people who don’t wanna pay a monthly fee ($3 or $7) is noteable! So if your camera detects movement, it’ll save a clip of say 15 seconds to a few minutes of however long the movement lasted. Ultimately it will SAVE 48 hours of footage. Once that happens it deletes the oldest footage to make room the new. The DEAL-BREAKER is that you can DOWNLOAD the videos to your phone! Hence as long as you’re on top of monitoring/saving whatever you need, you really don’t need to pay. Really thought I would mention that because it’s not clear on the packaging/website how that works. Haven’t tried other brands to compare because I’m new to this but can safely say this is a good purchase. 4 stars.

great camera
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. After spending weeks researching home 1080p security cameras, I decided to give the TP-Link Kasa Cam a try. My decision to do so was helped along by the fact that I am a (very satisfied) user of TP-Link smart Wi-Fi switches and plugs. I really couldn't be happier with the Kasa Cam. It does take a bit of trial-and-error to establish placement, orientation and sensitivity levels (as with any camera of this type). Once that was taken care of, the camera's performance has lived up to everything good that's been said about it in user reviews. I experience few false triggers, few missed triggers, quick response and very short lag times. Low light "reach" and performance in near-total darkness is very good. I highly recommennd the TP-Link Kasa

Easy set up, great security camera!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. So glad I bought through Best Buy. I needed it before the weekend and they promised next day delivery from our nearest Best Buy. The next day, as promised, it was delivered to my door by UPS. (Keep in mind, this is during the pandemic. ) It was simple to add to the Kasa App, and easy to set up alarms and activity zones. The picture quality is very good. I’m very pleased with the camera. But here’s the part that really impressed me ... I was so pleased with the camera, the price and the next day delivery that I ordered another one! Again, needing it before the weekend I was a bit disappointed to look at my email the next morning saying that there was a problem delivering it that day and Best Buy was looking into the situation. I went to the phone to call our Best Buy to ask them if I could pick it up at the store (1/2 hour there and 1/2 hour back) when my wife stopped me and handed me the package! I looked out the window to see the Best Buy Geek Squad truck drive away. Best Buy did its best to get me my security camera one way or another!

Works great and very reasonably priced
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed.I am using this to keep an eye on my grandson when he stays over and while its not a "true" baby monitor it works great. Kasa being owned by TP-Link is a big plus as they know wireless devices. Everything you need to setup is in the box. I already had app setup as already own 2 smart Kasa light and power switches so adding this to the app was very simple. Once setup in the app you can access from your mobile device pretty much anywhere in the world. There are many settings to allow you to setup pretty much exactly how you would like it to work. Including making a schedule, notifications, etc. You can also set it to track any motion within its viewing area (which is quite large), setup activity zones or just use as is. Also you can move the camera up/down,left/right and zoom in/out (360° horizontal view and 118° vertical view). This makes it very easy to install somewhere. Two way audio. Great resolution day or night at 1080P, but night vision limited to 30 feet and camera "glows" a little. Your videos are protected with 128-bit AES encryption with SSL/TLS right from the camera. I have it tied into Google Home and can tell it to stream video to my TV using Chromecast. There really isnt any downside except that with no "base" everything is stored in the cloud. Free plan allows for some storage, live streaming, push to talk, activity zones and notifications. $3 monthly ($30 per year) per camera adds 30 day rolling storage, video sharing. $10 ($100 per year) per month adds up to 10 cameras. You can exact info at https://www.kasasmart.com/us/kasacare. For someone looking to monitoring kids or pets and even some surveillance this is definitely worth a look.

Just using it to peek in at my pets.
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. Was actually pleased with the camera overall. Let’s you switch up the sensitivity of the motion detect, it’s got motion tracking or you could set it to check different zones. The quality isn’t bad at all, as for the night vision it could be better but you pay for what you get and at this price it’s not worth complaining. Captures audio nicely and setting it up was a breeze. The app is pretty user friendly and you can live view anytime. I just use it to check in on my pets, wouldn’t use this as a stand alone security camera for a home as much as I like it.

Q: QuestionI'm looking to buy 2 or more cameras, is it possible to have them linked and accessible on various devices at the same time (on a Amazon Fire Tablet and 2 iphones)?
Asked by FreshPrince.
- A:Answer Yes, you just need to download the app

Q: QuestionIs this a subscription service ?
Asked by Gary.
- A:Answer No. You can have this setup without having a subscription service. I use it as a pet cam and just delete clips as I watch them. I use it to check in live. There are subscription services available if you want to store footage. Hope this helps!

Q: QuestionIf I am controlling the camera remotely and it freezes, am I able to remotely restart the camera? This is an important option that is needed. If this camera doesn’t have this option, which camera does? Thanks, Debbie
Asked by Debbie.
- A:Answer No it cannot be reset through the APP you actually have to physically press the reset button on the camera and hold it to reset it, but if you close the app and reopen the app again it usually clears up any problems unless it’s your connection but most times out of any it’s my phone being slow that causes a minute disruption, it is also worthy to mention you can control the camera quality so if you have sucky connectivity you can save a little hassle by selecting a lower resolution

Q: QuestionCan someone clarify if this camera can function without internet connection? Are you able to see live footage as long as the app is downloaded?
Asked by JadaSmith.
- A:Answer The camera cannot operate without an Internet connection. It will not work with 5G. Yes, as long as you have the app you can see live footage. Remotely you can tilt and pan the camera. You can clearly see images in a dark room although the picture is in black and white.

Q: QuestionWhen motion is detected will it alert my iPhone so I can start viewing immediately?
Asked by Rex.
- A:Answer Yes, you can enable notifications within the Kasa app. Regards, TP-Link Support

Q: QuestionDoes this work if we mount it inside on the window sill but put the camera view facing outside through the front window to record our parking lot
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Yes; however when mounting a camera behind a pane of glass, please be advised that the infrared LEDs will reflect off the glass when activated at night, distorting the image. In such cases, we recommend disabling the night vision LEDs via the app, and ensuring the monitored area has adequate ambient lighting (i.e. outdoor lights). Regards, TP-Link Support
