You need to get the phone on the Trac fone system by purchasing a sim card first. Once done you need to establish service with some type of phone number and service plan for phone and data. Then if you need more data you can add this 3 GB card. 3 GB depends on how much data you use. video text or web pages? wi fi is only another connection to headsets or speakers or coputers and is free, but if you send it to the cloud then you have data use.

The unused data rolls over as long as you continue to have service days left. If you run out of service days, you lose everything-- the remaining data, minutes, texts, and your phone number and voicemails. It is still the the cheapest way to have a smart phone, in my experience. I buy 365 service days for $49, then just add on data, minutes, and texts as I need them. I have a Tracfone online account, so if I am running low on any of them, I can quickly add some to my account. In my experience, it is impractical to think you can only use wifi on your smart phone. What about when you are somewhere that does not have free open wifi? Some apps use data in the background, so to conserve data you would need to turn on data saver at least and probably disable data on your phone and just use wifi. The data could as long as you have service days left.
