Basically, yes. To unlock your cell phone, your carrier will provide you with an unlock code but their sim card can not be in the phone. So for example, if your carrier is AT&T, you can use a sim card from T-mobile, SimpleMobile, Net10, Cricket, etc. However, you'll have to make sure that the sim card that you purchase is the correct size. Usually in the "sim card kits", there are multiple sizes so one within that kit would work (and would list the type of sim(s) on the package). But to be on the safe side, just ask an associate if the sim would fit in your phone.
