No, you can port the number to another carrier. I have done it many times.

Please try again later.good question ... first off the carriers are mostly for who the phone was originally with so that it will continue to work on the tracphone system. like if the phone was t-mobile you'd want a sim card for that type of phone... second - the phone number can transfer from service to service with no issues, so having to stay on one service is not true. and tracfone uses all services i believe. and no the number is not locked to a service or sim card. - example my number was from boost went to verizon back to boost and then to tracfone. the sim card holds data so it can be connected to their systems but it does not lock in a number... a new sim card can have the same number as your old card and be used on a new phone while the first is disconnected and will no longer work. "as i have 3-4 of". hope that helps...

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You need to use the SIM card in the kit that is most compatible with your phone. If you have and unlocked GSM phone you need to use the AT&T card for unlocked GSM phones. If you have and unlocked CDMA that was made for Verizon you need to use the Verizon card. If you have a phone like a Moto or a Pixel that is factory unlocked and compatible with both GSM and CDMA you should pick the AT&T card. Tracfone will be your carrier no matter what card you need to use. Depending on the phone and SIM combination you need to use your service will be using either AT&T or Verizon's network of towers, but Tracfone will still be your carrier. Yes, your phone number is affixed to the SIM card once it is activated by Tracfone.
