Yes you can, we even transferred minutes from the older phone and kept the same number

Please try again later.I'm sorry to say that the manner in which your question is phrased is NOT very helpful (it is also highly inaccurate) So permit me to suggest that in order to receive assistance with an issue such as the one that you raised, YOU MUST ASK A VERY SPECIFIC QUESTION AND ASK IT VERY CLEARLY ! As already alluded to ,the phrasing of your question leaves MUCH to be desired ;it is not at all clear just WHAT you are actually trying to ask,but I will make a few educated guesses and try to go from there . When you buy this phone, before it will even work you must REGISTER it with TracFone, and at that time you should be able to transfer the TELEPHONE NUMBER from your previous phone to the new one, and if your previous( i.e. current ) phone - or your father's phone - is already a TracFone model - as you indicate that it IS -you would also be able to transfer the minutes and time which you still have on your ( old) phone to the new phone also.The process is not difficult and really only takes a few minutes, and the new phone comes with clear instructions on just how to accomplish this ! The things that will NOT transfer are data items which are stored on the phone's SIM card , such as telephone numbers/contact list, stored photos, agendas on calendars/lists etc. ( I would suggest to keep the old phone because these things should be stored on that phone's SIM card, and you may possibly be able, at some future time, to transfer the photos e.g. online through a computer hookup [ although I have not personally tried this] ; if the battery is still good in the old phone OR if a good ,charged battery is installed in that phone you should still be able to (hopefully) access the data [e.g. stored telephone numbers ; calendar items/lists etc.] on the old phone because it is stored on that phone's SIM card ; this can be helpful because even though these things do not transfer ELECTRONICALLY on a TracFone, still - being able to at least access them enables you to manually transfer the data yourself to the new phone, so it is NOT lost ; In other words, you can copy the phone numbers , for example, which are stored in your old phone and then manually enter them into the new phone . So while the phone will not electronically transfer all of this data , it may not be necessarily lost either ! ( Here is another pertinent consideration : if the phone "doesn't want to work" as you indicate, MAYBE all that it really needs is a new battery [also readily available online for about $8 or so, and very easy to install ; there are even good tutorials on youtube ] )
