The TracFone that I got for my son is a flip phone and is not the best phone for texting. It's a very arduous task because you need to tap each space until you get the letter that you want. If you want a good TracFone for texting you need one with a QWERTY keypad which is the same type of keypad that you will find on your computer or tablet. If you get the LG 306G TracFone it has the capacity for messaging. Your best bet is to go to BestBuy and talk to one of the Pros in the cell phone department.
