“Would this be a upgrade over the LG Rebel ? Also would the screen be better on this then the rebel as far as scratch protection ? Or any gorilla glass”

If the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime costs more than your Rebel I would think that's an upgrade.The higher the cost the better the phone--seems logical to me.Scratch protection is a relative thing --- depends on how severely you scratched the screen. I think Gorilla glass offers the hardest and most protection but I don't think this Galaxy comes with it-- if it did Samsung would tout it in it's advertisement for this phone. Hope this helped you.
