“I'm trying to set up this phone and there is an activation number for a sim. I've never encountered this with a TracFone before. Is this something a new phone needs now? Also, it mentions a microSD memory Card. Is this item necessary? Thanks”

If you want to expand the phone's memory storage capacity, you will need to have a microSD card inserted on the phone.
