No box spring on mine just wood slats from ikea been working great

If you use a platform frame, preferably with slats no more than 3 inches apart, you can place the mattress right on the slats. But if you're looking for a bit of additional height you can absolutely feel free to add a box foundation. If you use a more traditional metal frame that is lower to the ground, then you will need to add a box foundation for support and height. Either option is perfectly fine.
