The only advantage/difference of buying the program is that you can take advantage of a retailer’s discount. I bought mine with Best Buy points. I haven’t found that the products offered by TT online include any type of discount.

For those with newer computers without the CD drive, yes downloading is your best option. I under stand that there is even have a free version of the Fed download, however nothing is entirely free. You will still find there is a free to file at the end, and State filling is another matter.

Installing from the download is probably more efficient because you shouldn't have to download as many updates as you would when installing from the disc. Whether you install using the disc or the download you will need the license code.
