• It's stereo sound, not surround sound. You can tell left or right, but not back/front

• Only tried it with a few games, but yes, when I used the amplified (directly into PS4 via USB connectino), I was able to determine direction of sound (of footsteps and gunfire) from MGS5 and The Last of Us.
