Lithium-ion batteries in general have internal protection to prevent them from overcharging and overheating. That is why the battery must be fully charged before use. It must be recharged every few months to prevent the battery voltage from falling below the DO NOT CHARGE low threshold. At that point, they will not charge. These batteries are sometimes misunderstood by consumers! That is why it is important to read the supplied instructions! There was probably nothing wrong with this unit originally, just a failure to charge it properly!
