“i want to be able to turn the tv on the stand. will the base that the tv sits on swivel? do I need to be concerned about the tv falling off of the base (kids will be viewing on the tv also).”

I'll see if I can help, even if it looks like you asked this quite some time ago (Best Buy prompted me to answer). The base does NOT swivel. Also, your TV will only fall off of the base if someone runs into the TV quite hard. Think of it as if it were a TV sitting on a flat-topped coffee table. You can certainly knock it off, but not with normal use or bumping.
