No, it is not likely to work if the camcorder itself is displaying an error. The capture device takes the signal coming out of the camcorder connections. If there is a playback error, then the camcorder is not likely to send the proper signal to an external source. You can try checking this by connecting the outputs of the camcorder to a TV set to see if video and audio play correctly there. You would need to test this using the same cables that would be connected to the VIDBOX capture equipment - RCA and/or S-Video cables.
