There are other factors besides the distance that will have an impact. If you are outside and are in line of sight to your car, you should be able to reach the rated distance (1/2 mile with the included fob our 1 mile with a fob upgrade.) I got the upgrade and my office is about 1/3 mile to the car. I can't start from inside, and I have to walk about 1/4 block (to get line of sight to the parking lot) in order for it to work. If you also get the Smart Start module and pay for a subscription, you can control your car with your smart phone and free app from virtually anywhere.
