“Why is the small opening for the cables on the bottom of the speaker if wall mounted with “this side up”? Now the cables are coming out of the bottom instead of the top which would be better for concealment. Am I missing something here?”

I agree that this is a terrible design. If you want to wall-mount it right below your TV, there is no place for the wires to come out the top and be hidden. I assume most people will put the sound bar below their TV, so this is a huge swing-and-a-miss by Vizio.
