I have the D24-D1 and yes you can. You go into the MENU, select PICTURE, and there is a specific setting to turn the AUTO-BRIGHTNESS ON/OFF. This works great fro me as I am using mine as a second monitor on my computer and sometimes I watch a Netflix movie on it since it is Roku-ready. Hope this helps!!

From the owners manual: "Auto Brightness Control - The auto brightness control detects the light levels in the room and automatically adjusts the backlight for the best picture. Select Off , Low, Medium, or High." The PDF form of the owners manual can be found here: https://cdn.vizio.com/documents/d24d1/um-d24d1.pdf
