The specifications says that it's 28". That's actually the distance between the holes in the chassis where you insert the legs. The legs angle out slightly and they can only be inserted in the one direction. The width of the legs when inserted is about 29.5". I bought it to fit on a 30" shelf based on the 28" I read in the specifications. It's precariously close to slipping over the edge. I'd say you need at least a 32" width of a table or a shelf to safely mount it.
