This comes with literally NO APPS! All apps have to be casted from your phone or tablet
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Thank you for a great question on our SmartCast™ E43u-D2! This display runs on our VIZIO SmartCast™ platform tied with Google Cast. To access applications, you cast them from your paired smartphone or tablet running iOS 8.0 or higher or Android 4.4 or higher to the display. You can access hundreds of apps through Google Cast and VIZIO SmartCast™, such as Netflix, Hulu Plus, VUDU, Spotify, Pandora, and HBO NOW, just to name a few. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No, I would suggest that you stick to the Roku TV because this is only Google Cast and nothing more.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have Roku too. I love my Roku. In some ways Roku is better! To start with, you do have to use your phone or tablet. You have to download different TV apps to your phone/tablet and cast them to the TV. Now, most work seemlessly, however, not all apps cast. Some of them (on the iPhone) only lets you apple play them. Secondly, my issue isn't with the TV. The TV is beautiful! My issue is with the app. A couple of times, now, the app has signed me out and wouldn't allow me to sign back in. Also, IF, the app doesn't work... you're basically screwed. NOTHING will work. You need that app in order to watch TV, unless, you have it directly plugged into a cable box. I don't have mine plugged into a cable box, because, the whole point of this TV is a smart TV for streaming. In the app, you, are supposed to be able to connect with your cable/satellite company wirelessly thru the internet connection. I tried that several times, and it has never worked for me. Thirdly, the remote is very basic. Not that I'm looking for something fancy, but, it's so basic that it does nothing, and, what it does do- is confusing. There's no "menu" button, so, once you set the TV up- everything is controlled by the app. You can't go in and correct an Internet connection, you can't fix picture or audio problems, everything gets done through the app. I love this TV... when it works! It's not that these problems occur constantly, but, since the app and the casting are the way the TV works, it's very frustrating when it doesn't work. I literally can't watch TV, unless I connect a Roku, an Apple TV, or a cable box. That is where I think Roku is better. It works directly thru the TV and doesn't depend on an unreliable app. You may only be able to get Roku programs, but, Roku has thousands of channels that work. As I said before, not all individual apps will cast. Having said all of that, I would recommend this TV!
