In this case 48" is a little bit of overkill as far as size goes, but just fine. I am not running any high level graphics. It is really just there to display information as I manage the home system. I would say it depends on what you are doing. I have been using TVs for monitors for awhile and if you run really small fonts and downsize windows so you can open more things on the screen almost all of them will get a little grainy. I know because that's how I use mine, but I don't find it to be a problem. I have a dual TV set connected to my laptop docking stations and love it for dealing with large spreadsheets and working in multiple site all at the one time.
