I was after the same thing so I installed an antenna in my attic to pick up all of the local stations that are ~25 miles from my home. While we live in a hilly area, I am able to view many local stations quite well. But to answer specifically, you cannot access the internet as you would with a PC.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I was browsing the apps just the other day and while I'm not sure if you can access local news without a app, i do know there are a ton of local news apps built in for a lot of locations especially Fox Affiliates.
