With the sound bar attached to the TV using the eARC connection, any audio to the TV from an external device will play through the sound bar. Each individual device does not need to be connected to the sound bar.

My cable box works fine, but when trying to connect a DVD player, the sound bar locks up and I get no sound. Switching back to the cable box still has no audio. To clear the problem, I am have to switch back to cablebox and switch soundbar to optical. I can then switch back to HDMI IN. I haven't had time to investigate to determine cause. Not sure if it is the HDMI Switch, player or soundbar. To answer your question, I am not having any luck using an HDMI Switch.
