It can be but currently there is an issue with the hdmi arc feature not working properly.this is the feature that auto detects when you turn on a device to watch (such as ever, cable box or streaming app) and the soundbar should turn on as well. The problem is, it turns on but the sound does not work through the device you are using. This is a random issue. I had to return this system. It has a great sound but this arc issue will drive you crazy trying to get the sound to work.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This sound bar should work with any device that has a matching audio output such as optical or Analog Stereo.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. In theory, yes. I have not set up my unit yet as I am out of town for business. "The Vizio 5.1.2 Home Theater with Dolby Atmos has HDMI in and out with support for an audio-return channel (HDMI-ARC) as well as optical in, USB, Bluetooth, and Ethernet." If you have an older TV, pre "smart TV" times, your TV is likely to have optical audio out. Takes a special optical audio cable, the one that uses a red light when working. The Vizio unit can get sound/audio this way. If your TV has HDMI input, I would connect the source of content via an HDMI to the input terminal on the Vizio, then "pass through" onto your TV with another HDMI cable for both audio/video. If you have more than one content source, an affordable way to follow my previous suggestion, would be to get an HDMI hub, onto which you can connect up to 4 HDMI ready units, run one HDMI to your Vizio HDMI in, then pass on to your TV the way already mentioned. The HDMI hub is where you would switch sources that would feed the sound bar, then the TV. If your TV is too old to support Optical Audio Digital and or HDMI, then You will need to upgrade your TV...
