You can get the best Dolby atmos streaming apps offer at this time if you only have arc. At the moment, the only thing that actually uses lossless audio are bluray discs, and some other rare things, like certain files copied to USB drives to uploaded to a plex server. The main benefit of using earc is for the automatic audio video sync, so the video will always match the sound. However, it is possible to manage that yourself. The only other difference is that the TV is able to pass through multichannel lpcm, which Apple 4k tv, and many AV receivers convert audio to. Arc is only able to pass Lpcm as stereo, so you will have to use either Dolby, or DTS, which is fine as long as you select Dolby on say....the ps4 or xbox..and as long as you don't have an apple tv 4k, which converts everything to multichannel lpcm. If you do have an apple tv 4k, you will have to toggle audio settings between content that plays in atmos and content that doesn't. With atmos content, the auto audio function needs to be enabled, and you'll get atmos. With all other content, you'll need to disable the auto audio function and manually select Dolby digital 5.1. All of this, of course, can be avoided by just plugging directly into the soundbar.
