• You can lower the sub volume but the satellite speakers follow the main volume.

• There are no adjustments for background music on the sound system. You would control such things from the source system.

• Yea you can pick how much sound you want to come out of the back speakers.

• You can adjust the center volume, so if you raise the center volume, in theory you are "lowering" the side channels where the background music comes from. Unless you mean the surround speakers, which you can also adjust the volume levels too.
