“I have Comcast, will the remote from the cable box operate all the TV functions like changing Chanel's and sound? I don't want to have to have my phone with me all the time to get TV chanels. So I guess my question is will this function with just cable?”

Yes it will! You may need to program your remote to control the TV volume.
