The Vizio Mxx-Ex are 2017 models and Mxx-Dx are 2016 models. They are very similar and Rtings.com explains it well. Here is a quote from them on the same question: " Is the 2017 M Series an upgrade over the 2016 model? Depending on your use, it may be. The 2017 model has a wider color gamut and gets brighter than the M Series 2016, resulting in a better HDR experience. For SDR content though it is slightly worse due to the fewer local dimming zones resulting in worse dark scene performance. The 2016 model also has better input lag for SDR only, due to the game low latency port. If you plan to watch a lot of HDR content or play HDR games then go with the 2017 M Series, but otherwise go for whichever is cheaper." http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/vizio/m-series-xled-2017
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The M50-D1 is the 2016 model, which includes a tablet device in lieu of a traditional TV remote. The M50-E1 is the newest model for 2017. Vizio returned to a traditional remote with on-screen menus in response to quite a bit of negative customer feedback regarding the tablet system.
