It's definitely a smart TV. One uses the Android tablet that comes with the unit or any iOS device to cast streaming apps, like Hulu, to the Vizio.

It also comes with a android tablet in which allows you to install Netflix/Hulu/other streaming services just like a roku box, and then "cast" them from the android device to the TV that is on the same wireless network. I did use the word display above, due to this not have a coax connection, so you wont be able to hook your coax cable up to this TV. In order to get a cable TV you will need your cable provider(or satellite) provide a box that can do HDMI. I love every second of this display, even went out and bought a true 4K blu-ray player to compliment this TV(Samsung K8500). Once I turned on color sampling on my HDMI's of the TV, and used the 4K disc provided when I bought the new 4K movie, the 4K HDR10 on this TV is GREAT! Skitch I hope this helps you, and others looking at purchasing this TV, honestly i would give this a 10/10 in reviews. Best bang for your buck for a HDR10 and Dobly Vision TV.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Vizio Smartcast is basically a built in Google Chromecast Ultra. You queue up the media to play on the included tablet or your own device. As long as the service supports Chromecast you are good to go. Really only major service that doesn't support chromecast is Amazon Prime video.
