• Without the SmartCast app you cannot connect the TV to Wifi or do many other basic tasks.

• Thank you for a great question! To access applications or the menu, you will need to pair your iOS or Android smartphone or tablet to your display with the VIZIO SmartCast application. Once paired, you will open the apps you already use on your phone or tablet, and Cast them to the TV with a few clicks. Thanks again and have a great day! -Collin
