• It needs about 50 inches for the legs. They are a little closer together than that but you need a little room on each end. We do have ours temporarily on a plank across our shorter stand, until we see a stand we like. It seems sturdy.

• No, You need at least 52 inches. I had a 50 inch stand and the legs would not rest properly.
