• Yes, the remote that comes stock with the TV should work with the TV, even though you don't have a cable service. The remote, however will not work on your laptop. Once you have the laptop connected, you can control volume, picture, but since the laptop is the source, it will have to be manipulated via the laptop itself or a separate remote, (like Apple) in order to change what you are watching. If you want to save on paying for cable, but still have a lot of viewing options, I suggest Apple TV. You can connect your laptop wirelessly, rent movies on demand and watch TV from online sources such as HULU, Amazon and Netflix.

• Yes, as long as you have wifi in the house, you can stream the laptop to the tv through Chrome. A smartphone will control the tv without a remote through the smartcast app

• Yes you can! The remote app will work with the Display but we recommend connecting the display to the internet to cast apps.
